Travel style: Comfort

We’ve hand-picked some of the regions best lakeside lodges and cabanas for this one.

  • Bariloche is well connected to the rest of Argentina (and beyond) and makes an ideal base for this expedition. The Ruta de los Siete Lagos, one of the most stunning routes in South America awaits, arrive early, pick up your vehicle and hit the road.

The route can also be started from San Martin de los Andes- contact us for a custom itinerary.

  • Continue along Ruta de los Siete Lagos. This is a short driving day and you’ll have plenty of opportunity for hikes and to stop off at viewpoints en route.

  • Grab yourself a coffee and fill up the ‘mate’ thermos before continuing north into the foothills of Lanin Volcano. The 3,776m volcano dominates the horizon making it pretty hard to get lost. Accommodation for the next couple of nights is on the shores of Lago Huechulafquen, with endless opportunity for adventure.

  • A day off at Lago Huechulafquen to explore Lanin National Park. Spend the day fishing for trout, hiking, kayaking or exploring on horseback.

  • A longer day on the road, backtracking to San Martin to fill up the car and stock up on supplies before veering off to the bohemian town of Villa Meliquina on the shore of Lago Meliquina. Look at the stars and soak in the tranquility.

  • Weather permitting, follow Ruta 63 up over Cordoba Pass and stop to take in the incredible views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The route is a rugged & bouncy gravel road so expect the going to be slow. Stop for a photo in Valle Encantado and wet the fishing line for an hour or two in Limay River before returning to Bariloche. In wet weather, and for those not feeling quite so willing, returning to Bariloche via the Seven Lakes road (Ruta 40) is a safer bet.

  • Depart from San Carlos de Bariloche Airport
