Travel style: Expedition
Might require a little roughing it.
-
Both Salta & San Salvador de Jujuy are well connected to Buenos Aires by a number of domestic airlines, making either an ideal base for this expedition.
-
Pickup your vehicle in the morning. The majority of the roads used are going to bumpy & unpaved, making a 4X4 essential. Day one on the road is a pretty cruisey journey along Ruta 68 to the scenic town of Cafayate. Hit the road early and lace up the hiking boots- Garganta del Diablo, Quebrada de las Conchas, Los Estratos & Los Colorados are all en route and best explored by foot.
-
Spend the day in stunning Cafayate. Get up early to explore more rock formations by foot or spend the day hopping between any of the countless bodegas and wineries in the area. Cayafate is famous for its ‘torrontés’ wine and there are plenty of wineries offering tours.
-
The tarmac makes way to bumpy gravel as we turn onto ‘Ruta 40’, the legendary highway that stretches almost the entire length of Argentina. This is where the true adventuring begins- prepare for bumps, dust and otherworldly landscapes.
